Body Found in Flower Hospital Pond Monday July 26, 2021

A body was discovered floating in a pond on the campus of Promedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania. City of Sylvania Police were called to investigate at 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2021.
The drowning victim has been identified as Adam Robinson, 26 years of age. The victim has family in Toledo and they have been notified.
Sylvania Fire-EMS assisted with the recovery on Monday, and Sylvania detectives are leading the on-going investigation, working with the Coroner's office.
"We are now waiting for results for the autopsy, to get us more information," explained City of Sylvania Police Division Captain Danilynn Miller. "But we have no reason to expect that there was any foul play."
Detectives are also working with Promedica to determine how the deceased ended up at Flower Hospital, if he had been transported here, and if he had been seen or treated in the hospital. Miller said the police do not have any information that would indicate Robinson had been in Sylvania for any length of time.
The drowning is believed to be the first such incident since the Flower Hospital campus opened in 1975.
"In the 28 years that I have worked here, I cannot recall one single drowning happening over there," shared Miller.
Last winter an elderly couple had the car in the wrong gear and hit the accelerator instead of the break. The car went out on the ice, but the ice was thick enough that the car didn't fall through, and it was able to be moved off the ice. And earlier this year, a dog was rescued from the icy water of the pond by Sylvania Fire-EMS.
"The hospital contracts with a service to chase geese off," Miller said of the incident that went viral on social media. "The dog was trained to not hurt geese, because it's a herding breed, and it was trained to herd the geese away from the pond. It accidentally went out on the ice thinking it was solid, and fell in."
Miller said that the hospital provides life rings near both retention ponds, in case someone falls in, but she emphasized that it is not marketed as a place for swimming and there is no reason for anyone to go in the water.
"We have had a couple of incidents where people accidently drove their cars in the pond, but they were usually elderly or someone who was having a medical condition," recalled Miller. "These are just retention ponds. They are there for aesthetics, for wildlife, just for people to sit around and look at. "
"There have been little things here and there, but for the most part, there have not been any problems with the hospital's ponds," said Miller.
More information about the drowning is expected to be released after the autopsy results are reviewed in coming days.
On Tuesday August 3, 2021, Sylvania Police offered this update :
"We will have no further information until the coroner completes their investigation and we get their results. Unfortunately the toxicology screens which they need to complete are taking anywhere from 2 to 6 months."
